When my dear friend Harriet Forster took up graphic design I was most impressed. And, come to think of it, excited!
I thought "I am going to get some serious design tips from this babe"- (I didn't in case you were concerned for my lack of creativity.) Turns out that having a creatively talented friend doesn't mean you are going to somehow magically be able to be that way inclined.
So, I've left the important stuff up to Hattie.
<-- This is Hattie!
I sat down with Hattie (at our computers because we live hundreds of km's away now) and quizzed her about graphic design.
TRB- Why graphic design? You did a business degree at uni so what made you want to start again and study graphic design?
HF- Ok, so...I always had a passion for art and did it throughout school, but my passion for agriculture took over. At my first job after Uni I started designing ads for the website and flyers for the company and realised that I really enjoyed it and loved bringing out my creative side again. I really didn't know that much about graphic design and knew nothing about the software to use so decided I would really benefit from studying Graphic Design. I never realised how much I enjoyed learning until it was a subject I loved!
TRB- Where did you study graphics?
HF- CATC Design School in Sydney
TRB- Why is graphic design something you love?
HF- I love Graphic Design because I love creating designs for people that they love. I love that I am helping business get noticed through their logo or flyer. I love the way that I am always learning and am constantly inspired by things around. It makes me so happy that I can do this for a living!
TRB- Have you had a favourite project thus far? What was it? And- show me, show me!!
HF- Fave project would be Saltbush Stretch - I'll send logo through.
TRB- So, this is a wedding blog. What about wedding related designs?
HF- Well I must say that I have recently designed a few wedding invitations and loving that too! Here, I'll show you a few:
TRB- These are amazing! Where can my bride tribe find you?
HF- Thanks! I'm pretty easy to get in contact with and I don't really have a preferred channel so people- brides- can find me and contact me through Facebook, Instagram or email. I'll give you the links:
Here they are... the details on our overly talented photographer and videographer.
We first heard about Jess's photography skills when living up in the Gulf in 2014-2015. Her parents were managing the station we were on and so I'd heard all about what she was doing. It wasn't until the actual wedding day that we met for the first time though. But when we did meet, it was as though we'd known each other for years. Jess was great! Literally every single member of our bridal party said how relaxed Jess had made them feel and what good company she was. And it's so true, Jess is bloody good company to have around. Her energy was infectious, she made friends with everyone and to top it off, took some ripper photos!
If you've read any of the posts I wrote last weekend you would have already seen some of Jess's work.

Here's a few of my fav's (unintentionally chose all black and white photos to share). Check them out....
I know most of you have seen the preview video I shared the day after our wedding but its time to see the full thing!
Day One Films are insanely GOOD at making films. As just mentioned- they had a preview video ready within 24hrs after the wedding. When we were laying on the couch feeling rather sorry for ourselves, Matty was busy working away on the preview so we could relive the day again.
Matty from Day One Films was out at our venue bright and early. At first I was worried he'd have too much time to wait and get bored but oh no, no, no. Matty was up for a yarn with anyone and everyone. He got to making friends very quickly which actually made it less awkward when I knew later he'd be filming an intensely special moment. He is such a professional, if he wasn't chatting to the bridal party or photographer he was walking around getting shots and scoping for potential video/ photo locations.
The banter between him and Jess (photographer) throughout the day had been hilarious! They took it up a notch after the ceremony and were clearly having a great time which then made each of us feel even more comfortable with cameras in our faces. Honestly, I could never be a celebrity with cameras following you all day but as a one day only experience I would choose Day One Films any day!

The video is better than I could have ever imagined.
Check it out for yourselves..
If you're anything like me you'll run for the dance floor at any event. Any excuse to ditch the awkward conversation you were trying to have while mildly tipsy right?
When we were planning our wedding we wanted to make sure our dance floor went OFF! We wanted all our friends and family to cut loose after dinner and just enjoy the night. I knew that a band or musician would be the best way to get people moving- you can ignore a DJ with a speaker but if someone is up there singing their heart out it's a little hard.
A couple of months before our wedding I put a call out on The Rural Bride Facebook page asking for recommendations for an amazing musician. I received so many emails, private messages and comments recommending your most loved musicians. We ended up choosing Richie Gudgeon because it wasn't just a couple of people who recommended him to us, but about 5 or 6! And oh did we choose well!
Richie was really easy to organise everything with. He was all too flexible with his performances. Richie played during our cocktail hours, then leant his speakers and microphone to the MC for speeches- this involved a lot of moving and resetting up, and finally he played from our first dance right through until the bus left. We had compliments on his performance from almost every guest at the wedding. Richie's energy was felt by all and he never stopped! His song list was ON POINT and it got EVERYONE up and dancing which brought Doug and I such joy to see.
Thanks to you beautiful Rural Bride readers for recommending Richie Gudgeon to us.
